"Hmmm" I thought to myself. "How would a game with an old-age gameplay last up to modern day standards, what with all these complicated, graphics+physics expandings games these days, what is the point of having a Tetris game.. especially for the DS with some much potential?"
So, i sat down and played it, for 2 hours straight, OMG! The Tetris curse still lingers within me, Tetris has always been my fave Puzzle game for a long time and Tetris DS proves my addiction to the puzzle genre with the simple mechanic that everyone knows and loves, in fact, though my brother bought it on the cheap (£15), i say its definetely worth the price that i paid for it.
For me though, Tetris DS only has one great featre in it and thats the endless marathon, which is undoubtedly the bread and butter of this game, i couldn't bring myself down to play Catch, or Puzzle, or whatever exta features the game threw at me, it was just Marathon upon marathon upon marathon for me, trying to beat my own high score while also trying to survive and figuring out new tactics. Hence, this is the reason why this game fails, primarily its a Tetris game at heart, it doesn't need the other mdoes to be successful, and those extra modes prove to be just a distraction from the main game itself, with no lasting playable value or in terest that Marathon has. In fact, the game makes very bad use of the dual screen/touch screen features of the DS, this game cold be done on the GBA SP and would likely receive a much better mark for me.
There is one feature which is great though, the Online/Wifi mode which proves to be a fascinating insight in how skillful some players really are in a game like Tetris, guaranteed fun for hours, but also guaranteed fustration from many gamers, but you can't help but go dig at it again for another go to beat that high score.
Overall, 7.5/10
